Privacy policy

Tamarin is three things: Tamarin, an iPhone app for the parent of a child who plays sport; Tamarin Captain, an iPhone app for the coaches who run the teams; and the club console at tamarin.club, where a club's owner and the admins they name run the club. This policy describes what each of them stores, where, and who can see it.
The short version
- Your family's schedule, your players' names and what you say about them are stored so the app can show them to you, to your players' coaches, and to the club your players' teams belong to — and, for a player named to start a game, their first name and shirt number to the other families on the team. Nobody else.
- We do not sell data. We share it only with the services that run Tamarin, including Google, which serves the ads (see Advertising).
- Who may see what is decided by the database itself, not by the app's screens.
- You can delete your account, from the app or the club console, at any time.
What is stored
Your account. Each app creates an account for your phone the first time you open it, with no name, email or password. If you choose to verify a mobile number or an email address — so you can keep your account on a new phone, or sign in to the club console — that number or address is stored with the account. Tamarin Captain can also use Sign in with Apple, in which case Apple gives us an email address (which may be one of Apple's private relay addresses). The club console creates an account when you sign in to it with an email address or mobile number that no account uses yet.
Your profile. A name, a photo and a phone number, each only if you add it; a number you verify is added to your profile. If you are a parent, they are shown to the coaches of your players' teams. If you coach, they are shown to the families on your teams and to the other coaches and admins of your clubs.
Your players. For each child you add: a name, a colour, and — if you add them — a birthday and a photo, and the teams they are in.
The schedule. Teams, sessions and games, their times, places and addresses, opponents, the coach's notes, who starts a game, team photos and the team's group-chat links.
Who is not coming. When you say a player is out or late, that is stored with anything you type in the optional reason.
What the club holds about a player. A club may record, for each player in its teams, a shirt number, a position, an emergency contact's name and phone number, and a note. These are written by the club's owner and admins and read by the team's coaches and by the player's own family.
Clubs. A club's name, address, time zone, logo, courts, opening hours, the sports it offers, which coaches belong to it, court bookings, and any news the club posts.
What a team told its families. Each session added, changed, cancelled or restored, each court confirmed or refused, each note and each lineup is kept as a short notice on the team, so the families can see what changed.
Calendars a coach imports. The address of a calendar a coach imports into a team, so it can be synced again.
Notifications. Your phone's push token is stored with your account so we can tell you when a coach changes something. A notification carries the team, the time, the place and, for a note, its first lines, and is delivered through Apple. Each one waits in an outbox until it is delivered; the outbox is emptied after seven days.
On your phone. Your reminder settings, your sign-in, and a copy of your schedule and photos so the app and the Lock Screen widget work without a connection.
What is not stored
No location. Tamarin never asks for your location; directions open in Apple Maps, under Apple's policy. No contacts, no microphone, no health data, no browsing history, and no messages: there is no chat in Tamarin. A team's group-chat link opens WhatsApp or another app you already use, under that app's policy.
The club console uses no analytics and no advertising, and sets no cookies. It keeps your sign-in in your browser's local storage until you sign out.
Who can see your data
- You, on the phones and browsers signed in to your account.
- The coaches of your players' teams — the coach and the assistant coach — for those teams only: the players' names, photos and birthdays, your name, photo and phone number, and who is out or late, with the reason you gave. A coach cannot see your other players, your other teams, or anything else in your household.
- The other families on a team see the coach's and the assistant coach's name, photo and phone number, and the first names and shirt numbers of the players named to start a game. They do not see you, your players or your absences.
- The owner and admins of the club a team belongs to, in the club console: that team's schedule, its players' names, birthdays and photos, who was out and why, and the details the club holds about each player. They can download these as spreadsheets, which are then theirs to keep safe. They do not see parents' names or phone numbers.
- Nobody else. Access is enforced by the database. A person without a code sees nothing at all.
Photos follow the same rules: whoever may see a player may see the player's photo, and nobody else.
Advertising
Both apps are paid for by advertising, shown through Google AdMob: a small ad at the foot of each page, and in Tamarin a few in the schedule list. Ads are never placed in a notification, a widget or a sheet, or in the schedule next to a player marked out or late.
Unless you turn on Personalised ads in Tamarin's Profile, the apps ask Google for non-personalised ads. Turning it on asks iOS for permission to track; AdMob receives your device's advertising identifier only if you allow it. Turning Personalised ads off again makes the ads non-personalised; to stop the identifier being shared, turn off tracking for Tamarin under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. Tamarin Captain never asks. Either way, AdMob receives your IP address — and so your approximate location — basic information about your device, and how you interact with its ads. Google's use of data is covered by Google's privacy policy.
Your players' names, photos and schedule are never shared with any advertiser.
Who runs Tamarin for us
- Supabase hosts the database, the photos and the sign-in. Data is encrypted in transit.
- Apple delivers push notifications, and provides Sign in with Apple and Maps.
- An SMS provider and an email provider deliver the six-digit codes you ask for, and receive only the number or address the code is sent to.
- Google AdMob serves the ads, as described above.
- Cloudflare serves the website and the club console.
Deleting everything
In Tamarin: Profile → Delete my account and data. In Tamarin Captain: Profile → Delete my account. In the club console: Your account → Delete account. Before you confirm, you are shown what will go.
Deleting your account removes your profile, your household, your players, their absences, the teams you own — with their schedules, which other families rely on — and the clubs you own, with their courts and bookings. It cannot be undone. Photos attached to anything deleted can no longer be opened by anyone. Notes you wrote on a team you do not own stay with it, under the name you signed them with; news you posted for a club you do not own stays with the club.
You can also leave a team or a club at any time, and remove a single player from your household.
Children
Tamarin is for parents, coaches and the people who run clubs, who are adults. It is not directed at children, and children are not asked to use it. The data is about children, which is why who may see it is narrow and enforced by the database rather than by the screens.
If you believe a child has created an account, or you want a child's data removed and cannot do it yourself, write to us and it will be deleted.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version is posted here with a new date at the top.
